D2 Challenge

In fast-paced combat operations or mass casualty events, accurate medical documentation and clinical decision support are often sacrificed due to the immediate need to provide lifesaving care. Currently, 75% of pre-hospital combat casualty care is undocumented. To address this critical shortfall, DARPA has launched the Documentation and Decision Support (D2) Challenge.

The DARPA D2 Challenge tasks teams from across the country to create AI tools capable of automatically assessing casualties, recommending treatments, guiding care, and seamlessly documenting the process. Participants will compete for a total of $1 Million in prizes across two specialized tracks: Documentation and Decision Support.

Through a series of demanding evaluations, this challenge will push the state-of-the-art in artificial intelligence and medical informatics. The innovations spurred by the challenge will ensure our warfighters have access to guided, high-quality medical support at the point of injury, while capturing the critical data needed for long-term patient recovery.
