Fast and Curious

Disruption Opportunity

Fast and Curious aims to develop logic circuits at least 100 times more energy efficient than current state of the art.

Integrated circuits based on CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) technology have been the backbone of computing, but CMOS is nearing its theoretical limits in energy efficiency. Meanwhile, power-hungry technologies like artificial intelligence and power-constrained, edge-computing environments like space highlight the need for radically more efficient designs.

The Fast and Curious Disruption Opportunity (DO) investigates new device physics, materials, and architectures to enable a scalable digital computing technology 2-3 orders of magnitude more energy efficient than CMOS. The DO will start with simple, transistor-like designs and build up to higher level logic circuits; throughout the program, designs will remain compatible with advanced microelectronic manufacturing.
