Disruption Opportunity

Fast and Curious aims to develop logic circuits at least 100 times more energy efficient than current state of the art.

Integrated circuits based on CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) technology have been the backbone of computing, but CMOS is nearing its theoretical limits in energy efficiency. Meanwhile, power-hungry technologies like artificial intelligence and power-constrained, edge-computing environments like space highlight the need for radically more efficient designs.

The Fast and Curious Disruption Opportunity (DO) investigates new device physics, materials, and architectures to enable a scalable digital computing technology 2-3 orders of magnitude more energy efficient than CMOS.

The DO will start with simple, transistor-like designs and build up to higher level logic circuits; throughout the program, designs will remain compatible with advanced microelectronic manufacturing.
