Program Manager
Microsystems Technology Office
John M. Hoffman, Ph.D., joined DARPA in February 2025 as a program manager in the Microsystems Technology Office (MTO).
Prior to joining DARPA as a program manager, Hoffman worked as a director with Ernst and Young, LLC, where he advised DARPA, other U.S. government clients, and commercial clients on research and development programs in advanced microelectronics, with a focus on bioelectronics.
Hoffman also worked as a scientist contributing to Roche Sequencing’s sequencing by expansion (SBX) technology.

Programs
Ideas under incubation
- Sequence defined polymer synthesis with molecular machines for microsystems applications: What approaches, platforms, and systems could enable synthesis of sequence-defined polymers (e.g., novel synthetic methods and/or molecular machines)? What DOD applications might such macromolecules unlock for catalysts, optical materials, textiles, and microsystems manufacturing?
