Established in 1958 as part of the U.S. Department of Defense, DARPA pursues opportunities for transformational change rather than incremental advances. It does so collaboratively as part of a robust innovation ecosystem that includes academic, corporate, and governmental partners. In addition to program-specific opportunities, each DARPA technical office maintains an “office-wide” Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) that covers a range of technical areas of interest to each particular office. The office-wide BAAs are refreshed on an annual basis and offer a mechanism for researchers to reach DARPA with ideas that they feel could be valuable to national security.

Quantum Apertures Proposers Day

Fast Event-based Neuromorphic Camera and Electronics (FENCE) Proposers Day

DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals to develop event-based IR camera technologies for future sensing systems. Event-based imagers have been shown to operate with low latency and low power in the visible imaging domain. The FENCE program will develop next-generation event-based IR imagers, creating a new modality of low-latency, low-power sensing for the DoD. The FENCE program will consist of a single technical area and will be a 48-month program that will be executed in three phases.

Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)

To provide game-changing capabilities to our warfighters, DARPA must have the tools to operate at the pace of innovation. In order to capitalize on small business innovation, DARPA has implemented a new approach to advertise SBIR and STTR funding opportunities on a “just-in-time” basis, outside of the three pre-determined announcements issued at the DoD level. SBIR and STTR Opportunities (SBOs) will be announced under this BAA. Only proposals submitted in response to an active corresponding SBO will be evaluated for funding.
