Opportunities

Established in 1958 as part of the U.S. Department of Defense, DARPA pursues opportunities for transformational change rather than incremental advances. It does so collaboratively as part of a robust innovation ecosystem that includes academic, corporate, and governmental partners. To fulfill its mission, the Agency relies on diverse performers from throughout this ecosystem to apply multi-disciplinary approaches to both advance knowledge through basic research and create innovative technologies that address current and predicted practical problems through applied research. The list of selected opportunities displayed below is provided for convenience. For a complete listing of DARPA opportunities please visit the beta.SAM.gov website.. More

In addition to program-specific opportunities, each DARPA technical office maintains an “office-wide” Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) that covers a range of technical areas of interest to each particular office. The office-wide BAAs are refreshed on an annual basis and offer a mechanism for researchers to reach DARPA with ideas that they feel could be valuable to national security.

Time-Aware Machine Intelligence (TAMI)
DSO
The Time-Aware Machine Intelligence (TAMI) AIE Opportunity will develop new time-aware neural network architectures that introduce a meta-learning capability into machine learning. This meta-learning will enable a neural network to capture the time-dependencies of its encoded knowledge.

Science of Atomic Vapors for New Technologies (SAVaNT)
DSO
The Defense Sciences Office (DSO) at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is soliciting innovative research proposals that significantly advance the performance of atomic vapors for electric field sensing and imaging, magnetic field sensing, and quantum information science (QIS). Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, systems, or novel applications of atomic vapors. Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice.

Information Innovation Office (I2O) Office-wide
I2O
This Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) seeks revolutionary research ideas for topics not being addressed by ongoing I2O programs or other published solicitations. Potential proposers are highly encouraged to review the current I2O programs (http://www.darpa.mil/about-us/offices/i2o) and solicitations (http://www.darpa.mil/work-with-us/opportunities) to avoid proposing efforts that duplicate existing activities or that are responsive to other published I2O solicitations.

Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)
SBPO
To provide game-changing capabilities to our warfighters, DARPA must have the tools to operate at the pace of innovation. In order to capitalize on small business innovation, DARPA has implemented a new approach to advertise SBIR and STTR funding opportunities on a “just-in-time” basis, outside of the three pre-determined announcements issued at the DoD level. SBIR and STTR Opportunities (SBOs) will be announced under this BAA. Only proposals submitted in response to an active corresponding SBO will be evaluated for funding.

Strategic Technologies
STO
DARPA's Strategic Technology Office (STO) is seeking innovative ideas and disruptive technologies that provide the U.S. military increased lethality in an era of eroding dominance within the focus areas of the broader Mosaic Warfare objective: Mosaic Technologies, Mosaic Effects Web Services (EWS), and Mosaic Experimentation.
Response date: 4/14/2021
Adaptive Warfighting Architectures
ACO
The Adaptive Capabilities Office (ACO), working in close partnership with the military services, develops adaptive warfighting architectures that combine emerging technologies with new warfighting constructs to address the challenges faced by military forces in contested environments.
