MXO seeks experts in materials, components, tools, and processes who bring a multidisciplinary mindset and the vision to translate breakthrough science and engineering into transformative DARPA programs across the following areas:
- Effects: Leverage in-depth technical knowledge of latest hardware or hardware-informed algorithms and systems to create disruptive mission capabilities or technology surprises.
- Energy: Revamp energy generation or power delivery concepts for harsh mission environments or energy constrained systems to enable new missions such as in future space, underwater, organic environment, or create economic advantages.
- Quantum: Command quantum expertise beyond quantum computing to leverage quantum phenomena to create revolutionary quantum-based mission capabilities. Quantum phenomena include, but are not limited to, those observed in diverse modalities such as atomic, electromagnetic, photonic, acoustic signals observed in materials, components or devices.
- Organics: Bring in-depth organic expertise to apply such knowledge to create new materials, to augment components, to enhance processes for new functions, disruptive applications, or future economics. Materials: Realize new materials for new functions in components and systems and/or to unlock future U.S. economics.
- New Compute: Leverage computing expertise beyond digital and quantum computing to map and merge challenging arithmetic computation with new computing architectures or hardware fabrics to achieve beyond AI compute functionality.
- Robotics: Bring robotics concepts, e.g. non-humanoid robotics, and enabling technology including new materials, components, and manufacture processes to provide new mission capabilities from seabed to space or create economic advantages are of interest.
- Photonics: Expertise spanning physics, materials, component, processes, to applications to expand the usage of photonic modality for disruptive mission capabilities.
