Summary
The Changing Hydrodynamics and Aerodynamics On Structures (CHAOS) Disruption Opportunity aims to better understand the physics of flow noise created by turbulent fluids interacting with structures (e.g., a ship’s hull or an airplane’s wing).
CHAOS is focused on experimentally understanding and quantifying the unsteady pressure and shear stress fluctuations that act on the surface of a structure.
Experimental observations will be compared with the results of predictive models in order to benchmark the current understanding of the active phenomena and identify gaps for further research.
CHAOS will characterize these fluctuating pressures and shear stresses as a function of space and time.
