Salvatore Buccellato joined DARPA in October 2022 as a program manager in the Tactical Technology Office. His technical background includes structures and materials, large scale manufacturing, hypersonics ground and flight testing, and integration and testing of complex systems.
Prior to joining DARPA, Buccellato served as the high temperature durable materials lead for NASA’s Hypersonic Technology Project. He began his career at NASA’s Langley Research Center in the Engineering Technician Coop Program and graduated from NASA’s Langley Research Center’s Engineering Technician Apprentice Program as a journeyman machinist. Buccellato has supported projects including the DARPA/U.S. Air Force Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept, the U.S. Air Force/DARPA X-51A Scramjet Engine Demonstrator, the U.S. Air Force/NASA/Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation Hypersonic International Flight Research Experiment Flight 2 and the newly developed Mach 6 Nozzle for the 8-Foot High-Temperature Tunnel Facility at NASA’s Langley Research Center.
Buccellato holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
