Lt. Col. Ronald Aung joined DARPA in 2022 as a special assistant to the director and the agency’s first U.S. Space Force operational liaison. 

In this role, he serves as the senior advisor to agency leadership and technology offices on space power matters, providing operational expertise and counsel.

Prior to joining DARPA, Aung served as the technical director, Experiments and Initiatives Division Laboratory, National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado. He also served as a program manager for high performance computing, a flight test engineer for F-16, T-38, and T-53A, and a communications systems officer. He has deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, as the NRO national agency representative and to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, as a test engineer for electronic warfare systems.

Aung holds a doctorate and Master of Science in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Master of Science in industrial engineering from New Mexico State University, and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.
