Matthew Sambora

Dr. Matthew D. Sambora joined DARPA in 2024 as a program manager in the Tactical Technology Office. He has extensive experience in the Department of Defense focused on space and aerospace systems, science and technology, system engineering and integration, technology transition, and acquisition. His other interests include autonomous operations and remote sensing.

Before DARPA, Sambora was the Chief of Autonomy Integration at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, where he led efforts to integrate GEOINT into autonomous systems. He is a retired Air Force officer and served in numerous acquisition and engineering roles including as a Senior Military Professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology where he led the Center for Space Research and Assurance and taught graduate-level courses in engineering.

Sambora holds a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology; master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, military operational art and science from Air Command and Staff College, and procurement and acquisition management from Webster University; and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Clarkson University.
