Hamish Malin

Program Manager

Tactical Technology Office

Mr. Hamish Malin joined DARPA’s Tactical Technology Office in February 2021 with more than two decades of leadership experience in both the government and industry. Malin’s technical expertise includes precision guided munitions, weapon sensor and seeker technologies, GPS-denied navigation, telemetry, and gun-hardened electromechanical systems. His program management duties have spanned project initiation, project execution, and direction of product fielding. He is particularly interested in developing novel technologies to expand naval surface engagement capabilities.

Prior to joining DARPA, Malin served as chief engineer for the Advanced Hypersonic Weapons & Guided Munitions (E20) Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. During 18 years in various roles there, he focused primarily on guided projectiles and their complementary gun weapon system elements. He had significant leadership roles in a multitude of weapons programs including Guidance Integrated Fuze (GIF), Advanced Low-cost Munitions Ordnance (ALaMO), Multi-Azimuth Defense Fast Intercept Round Engagement System (MAD-FIRES), Railgun, and Hypervelocity Projectile (HVP).

Previous to that, Malin worked for Raytheon Systems Co. on reconnaissance systems where he was a test engineer responsible for large airborne SIGINT reconnaissance systems and spent considerable time overseas as a field service representative interacting on a daily basis with military personnel, flight crews, and intelligence agencies.

Malin holds a Bachelor’s of Science in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, as well as a Master’s of Science in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic and State University.
