DARPA’s Information Innovation Office (I2O) is hosting a Proposers Day to provide information to potential proposers on the objectives of the upcoming Data-Driven Discovery of Models program. The program aims to develop semi-automated model discovery systems that enable non-expert users (i.e., users with subject matter expertise but no data science background) to create empirical models of real, complex processes. DARPA believes such a capability would increase the productivity of data scientists, and enable many more users to make predictions from data.

The Information Innovation Office is holding a Proposers Day meeting to provide information to potential proposers on the objectives of the new Knowledge-directed Artificial Intelligence Reasoning Over Schemas (KAIROS) program. KAIROS will explore how to understand complex events described in multi-media input by developing a semi-automated system that identifies, links, and temporally sequences their subsidiary elements, identifying the participants of the complex events and the subsidiary elements, and identifying the complex event type. An event is a recognizable and significant change in either the natural world or human society. Events of interest either create changes that have significant impact on national security or participate in causal chains that produce such impacts.

The Strategic Technology Office is holding a Proposers Day meeting to provide information to potential proposers on the objectives of the new Air Combat Evolution (ACE) program and to facilitate teaming. The goal of ACE is to automate air-to-air combat, enabling reaction times at machine speeds and freeing pilots to concentrate on the larger air battle. Turning aerial dogfighting over to AI is less about dogfighting, which should be rare in the future, and more about giving pilots the confidence that AI and automation can handle a high-end fight.
