Dr. Craig Lawrence joined DARPA in 2013 as a Program Manager for the Strategic Technology Office (STO). Dr. Lawrence’s interests are in battle management, command and control (BMC2); autonomy, optimization and control theory; and modeling and simulation. Prior to joining DARPA, Dr. Lawrence was a Technical Director in the Technology Solutions division at BAE Systems. He spent 15 years in industry leading large DoD research and development programs in diverse technical areas including command and control for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR); planning and optimal resource management; modeling and simulation; and machine learning, control theory, and optimization-based design.

Dr. Eric Van Gieson joined DARPA as a Program Manager in August 2017 with the goal of using host-based methods to mitigate the impacts of emerging threats. He intends to explore epigenetic and real-time monitoring approaches that can dynamically guide healthcare decisions and therapy as well as new methods of increasing patient survival in austere environments using intelligent systems partnered with local care providers.

Dr. John S. Paschkewitz joined DARPA as a program manager in 2015. He is interested in new paradigms and foundational approaches for the design of complex systems and system-of-systems (SoS) architectures. Prior to joining DARPA, Dr. Paschkewitz was a research area manager at PARC (formerly Xerox PARC) where he worked on an exceptionally broad range of problems spanning hardware design, software development, materials science, manufacturing, and innovation management.

Lt. Col. Jimmy “Reverend” Jones joined DARPA in October 2016 as a program manager in the Strategic Technology Office. Prior to his arrival, he was the chief of the Advanced Countermeasures Branch in Air Force Special Programs at the Pentagon. Lt. Col. Jones is a U.S. Air Force test pilot with combat experience as a Wild Weasel flying suppression of enemy air defenses missions in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In addition to the six technical offices that manage the Agency’s research portfolio, DARPA operates the Adaptive Execution Office , a support office chartered to accelerate the transition of game-changing DARPA technologies into Department of Defense capabilities. AEO provides DARPA with robust connections to the warfighter community and assists the Agency with the planning and execution of technology demonstrations and field trials to promote adoption by the Services.
