The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Strategic Technology Office (STO) is hosting a “Sync with STO” event on August 2 – 3, 2017. The purpose of the event is to (1) familiarize attendees with STO’s vision, problem spaces, program managers (PMs), and technology interests; and (2) facilitate technical discussions between STO PMs and attendees that explore innovative and impactful solution ideas for strategic national security challenges. The event is scheduled for August 2 – 3, 2017, at the DARPA Conference Center located at 675 N. Randolph St. Arlington, VA 22203.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is sponsoring a Proposers Day webcast to provide information to potential proposers on the objectives of an anticipated Research Announcement (RA) for the Young Faculty Award (YFA) program.
Modern expeditionary military missions generate and exchange massive amounts of data that are used to produce situational awareness and guide decision-making. Much of the data must travel long distances along backbone communications networks composed of high-capacity links that interconnect command centers.
Current airborne electronic warfare (EW) systems must first identify a threat radar to determine the appropriate preprogrammed electronic countermeasure (ECM) technique. This approach loses effectiveness as radars evolve from fixed analog systems to programmable digital variants with unknown behaviors and agile waveforms. Future radars will likely present an even greater challenge as they will be capable of sensing the environment and adapting their transmissions and signal processing to maximize performance and mitigate interference effects.

The Adaptive RF Technology (ART) program aims to significantly advance the hardware used in communication radios by developing a fully adaptive and reconfigurable architecture that is agnostic to specified waveforms and standards. ART-enabled “cognitive” radios would be able to reconfigure themselves to operate in any frequency band with any modulation and for multiple access specifications under a range of environmental and operating conditions.
