DARPA’s Defense Sciences Office (DSO), which identifies and pursues high-risk, high-payoff research initiatives across a broad spectrum of science and engineering disciplines, will host Discover DSO Day (D3) on June 15, in Arlington, Virginia. The event is designed to familiarize potential proposers with the mission, research areas of interest, and business processes pursued by the DSO, a fundamental research office with a history of not only reshaping existing technical fields but also creating entirely new disciplines—and of transforming bold, paradigm-challenging initiatives into game-changing technologies for U.S. national security.

The DRC is a competition of robot systems and software teams vying to develop robots capable of assisting humans in responding to natural and man-made disasters. Participating teams, representing some of the most advanced robotics research and development organizations in the world, are collaborating and innovating on a very short timeline to develop the hardware, software, sensors, and human-machine control interfaces that will enable their robots to complete a series of challenge tasks selected by DARPA for their relevance to disaster response.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is sponsoring a two-day Proposers Day event to provide information to potential proposers on the objectives of the DSO Office-wide Broad Agency Announcement (BAA): http://go.usa.gov/cStaQ. The event will be held at the DARPA, 675 North Randolph Street, Arlington, VA 22203 on June 22-23, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Advance registration is required; attendees may attend in person or participate via webinar.

The objective of DARPA’s new ICARUS program is to create vanishing platforms for airborne delivery of small payloads. Supply and re-supply of small military and civilian teams in difficult-to-access territory currently requires large parachute-based delivery systems that must be packed out after receipt of the payload both for operational security and environmental concerns. Last-minute registration for the program’s Proposers Day is possible on-site and potential performers in the program who cannot attend can learn more by way of the registration web page, the Broad Agency Announcement posted on FedBizOpps, and a lay-language DARPA UPdate on the Agency’s web site.

DARPA’s Tactical Technology Office (TTO) is hosting a Proposers Day to provide information to potential applicants on the structure and objectives of the new OFFensive Swarm-Enabled Tactics (OFFSET) program. OFFSET seeks to dramatically increase the effectiveness of small-unit combat forces operating in urban environments by developing and demonstrating 100+ operationally relevant swarm tactics that could be used by groups of unmanned air and/or ground systems numbering more than 100 robots.
