On May 19, 2018, DARPA is taking part in Military Invention Day at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, an event produced by the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation. The event will showcase examples of today’s leading-edge military inventions alongside historical technologies from the Museum’s collections, offer attendees the chance to meet scientists and engineers, and provide hands-on invention challenges.

DARPA’s Tactical Technology Office (TTO) is hosting a Proposers Day to provide information to potential applicants on the structure and objectives of the new OFFensive Swarm-Enabled Tactics (OFFSET) program. OFFSET seeks to dramatically increase the effectiveness of small-unit combat forces operating in urban environments by developing and demonstrating 100+ operationally relevant swarm tactics that could be used by groups of unmanned air and/or ground systems numbering more than 100 robots.

The Tactical Technology Office is holding a Competitors Day to communicate the vision and timeline of the DARPA Subterranean (SubT) Challenge, engage potential competitors, and provide a space for technical and operational exchange to support teaming. An in-person meeting will take place at the Louisville Mega Cavern in Louisville, Kentucky; the event will also be webcast for those who would like to participate remotely. The goal of the DARPA Subterranean Challenge is to discover innovative solutions to rapidly and remotely map, navigate, and search complex underground environments, including human-made tunnel systems, urban and municipal underground infrastructure, and natural cave networks.

DARPA’s Tactical Technology Office is hosting a Virtual Proposers Day to provide information through pre-recorded videos about TTO’s goals and areas for investment in advance of the mid-June release of the “2018 Disruptive Capabilities for Future Warfare” Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). The event also will provide an opportunity for companies and individuals to meet with TTO program managers to discuss concepts for advanced research, development, and demonstration of systems for military missions.
