The Protected Forward Communications (PFC) Program aims to enable small unit tactical operations to persist in electronic warfare (EW) conditions by developing an integrated communication system protecting three distinct conversations from exploitation and denial.
Radios are used for a wide range of tasks, from the most mundane to the most critical of communications, from garage door openers to military operations. As the use of wireless technology proliferates, radios and communication devices often interfere with and disrupt other wireless devices. First responder radios need to be able to communicate reliably in such congested and contested environments and to share radio spectrum without direct coordination or spectrum preplanning.
Office Director
Dr. Timothy Grayson is the director of the Strategic Technology Office (STO) at DARPA. In this role, he leads the office in development of breakthrough technologies to enable warfighters to field, operate, and adapt distributed, joint, multi-domain combat capabilities at continuous speed. These technologies include sensing, communications, and electronic warfare technology and the supporting tools and decision aids needed to compose, integrate, and operate complex combat architectures.
Program Manager
Mr. Dave Tremper joined DARPA as a program manager in June 2017. Prior to joining DARPA, Mr. Tremper served nine years as a program manager in electronic warfare (EW) at the Office of Naval Research (ONR) where he managed applied research programs in the areas of EW and counter-intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C-ISR) for both stand-alone and networked systems applications.
