Dr. Linda Chrisey joined DARPA in July 2020 as a program manager in the Biological Technologies Office. Her research interests include synthetic biology, microbial energy harvesting, and the human microbiome.
Chrisey joined DARPA after serving as a team leader and scientific program officer in the Office of Naval Research (ONR), where she developed and executed basic and applied biotechnology research programs with the aim of transition to the Department of the Navy (DON) and Department of Defense (DOD). She also recently served as the executive secretary to the Office of the Secretary of Defense Biotechnology Community of Interest (COI) and represented DON to the U.S. National Science and Technology Council’s Interagency Synthetic Biology Working Group.
Prior to her tenure at ONR, Chrisey was a research chemist at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), and completed postdoctoral research fellowships at NRL and the National Institutes of Health. She also worked as a senior scientist at SYNTHECELL Corporation.
Chrisey holds a Doctor of Philosophy in bioorganic chemistry from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the State University of New York, Binghamton. She has published 23 peer-reviewed journal articles and four book chapters, given numerous technical presentations, and holds four patents. A recipient of several awards for innovation and service, Chrisey has also served as reviewer for many academic journals as well as government science and technology review panels.
