Dr. George Nowak joined DARPA in August 2017 as a program manager in the Strategic Technology Office (STO). Dr. Nowak’s current focus is on developing a system-of-systems architecture that adapts advanced technologies to enhance capabilities of ground forces. Additionally, his research interests include photonic devices and systems, and optical communications.
Prior to joining DARPA, Dr. Nowak led the Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory for 10 years, managing several significant prototype development and demonstration programs.
Dr. Nowak served for 24 years in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer officer in various command and staff positions. He also served as an associate professor of electrical engineering and research scientist in the Photonics Research Center at West Point.
Dr. Nowak holds a Bachelor of Science in math and electrical engineering from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Engineering Administration in construction management from The George Washington University, a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. He is a registered professional engineer in Virginia and a senior member of IEEE.
