Commander James “Sleestak” Reeve is the Division Chief for the U.S. Navy and STRATCOM in the Adaptive Execution Office. In this capacity, CDR Reeve works with DARPA and the Services to evaluate transition paths for DARPA technologies while identifying capability gaps related to specific technology/research and development objectives. He also manages and tracks DARPA technological efforts of interest to DoD users across the Naval (Air/Space/Cyber) and STRATCOM mission sets. As DARPA’s co-lead for the Technology Development Working Group, he works to ensure synergy between DARPA, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Navy special access programs. Additionally, CDR Reeve manages DARPA's Service Chiefs Fellows Program.
CDR Reeve is an FA-18 Weapons Systems Officer with more than 2,700 hours in the Super Hornet. He most recently served on the Chief of Naval Operations staff as Section Head for Aviation Weapons (N98) to define weapons requirements and resourcing for over 30 disparate programs involving $1.4B of annual procurement and research and development. Before that assignment, the Navy selected CDR Reeve as the Defense Legislative Fellow for Senator Tim Kaine in 2014. He spent the 11 years prior in the FA-18 in various capacities, to include Department Head, Training Officer, Strike Fighter Weapons and Tactics Instructor, and Mission Commander. A TOPGUN graduate, CDR Reeve has numerous combat deployments and a tour with the Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Japan. He also deployed to Afghanistan as a Fires Officer in support of a Joint Special Operations Task Force.
He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Naval Postgraduate School.
