Col. Joseph Angyal joined DARPA in 2016 as the special assistant to the director and U.S. Army operational liaison. Previously, he served as the deputy director of the U.S. European Command Joint Cyber Center in Stuttgart, Germany.
Commissioned in 1988 as a signal corps officer, he has served in numerous operational and institutional assignments, ranging from platoon up through combatant command level, including deployments to Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Joint Guardian, and Iraqi Freedom. He has commanded at both the company and battalion level. Colonel Angyal has also served as the chief information officer (G6) for the Army Service Component Command for U.S. Africa Command (U.S. Army Africa), and as the director of the Mission Command Test Directorate, Operational Test Command, U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command.
His awards and decorations include: the Defense Superior Service Medal; two awards of the Legion of Merit; the Bronze Star Medal; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; four awards of the Meritorious Service Medal; three awards of the Army Commendation Medal; four awards of the Army Achievement Medal; and a variety of unit and campaign awards.
Colonel Angyal holds a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science in national resource strategy from the National Defense University’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He received a Bachelor of Arts in political science and military studies at Norwich University.
