Commander Matthew Thatcher joined DARPA as the U.S. Navy operational liaison in 2020. He previously served at the White House Military Office as the director, President’s Emergency Operations Center.
His operational experience has included tours onboard USS LOUISVILLE (SSN 724), USS COLUMBUS (SSN 762), and USS CALIFORNIA (SSN 781). He has deployed multiple times to the Western Pacific and to the Northern Atlantic theaters of operation.
Staff tours have included as congressional liaison in the Assistant Secretary of the Navy’s Appropriations Matters Office (FMBE), flag aide to the director, Naval Reactors, and as an assistant professor of Naval Science at the University of Southern California NROTC.
Thatcher holds a Master’s in business administration from USC’s Marshall School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy.
