Swati Choudhary

Biological Technologies Office

Dr. Swati Choudhary joined DARPA in June 2024 as a program manager in the Biological Technologies Office. She is broadly interested in the intersection of AI/ML and synthetic biology, and their applications in industrial biotechnology. Specifically, she has extensive experience in delivering improved microbial strains for producing proteins and biochemicals, from discovery to scale-up.

Prior to coming to DARPA, Choudhary served as head of strain engineering at Shiru Inc., where she was responsible for leading the microbial strain engineering program for AI-enabled protein discovery. She also served as the senior scientist of strain engineering at Calysta, Inc.; and biochemistry and strain engineering at BioAmber, Inc.

She has published peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals and book chapters within her field and presented several invited seminars.

Choudhary earned a doctorate degree in genetics and developmental biology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center; master’s and bachelor’s degrees in biochemical engineering and biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology (New Delhi); and a post-doctoral fellowship in synthetic biology from the University of Minnesota.
