DARPA and the Information Technology Revolution
The world is changing at an ever-increasing rate, and information technology – algorithms, software, hardware, and networks – is the driving force.
DARPA has played a leading role in this information technology revolution, and few would argue with the claim that the single most important development was the creation of the ARPANET by the Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO) some 40 years ago. Since then, IPTO has continued to pioneer other important technologies in areas such as language processing, machine intelligence, and advanced computing.
DARPA Network Challenge
To mark the 40th anniversary of the Internet, DARPA is hosting a competition to explore the ability of the Internet to bring people together to solve tough, time-critical problems. Learn how to participate.
