Hyperspectral Radiography Sources

Program Manager: Matthew S. Goodman, Ph.D.

HRS Logo The vision of this program is to develop a set of inter-operable modules that will convert ultra-short, ultra-intense laser pulses into other forms. These modules would produce high-brightness beams of either secondary photons (for example, tunable x-rays) or high-energy particles for applications such as imaging, tomography, nonlinear spectroscopy, etc. By interfacing with a common laser source, a single apparatus forms a system by which one would duplicate many of the capabilities of several different national laboratory-scale facilities. The end goal of the program is to demonstrate the interleaved operation of two distinct source modules, controlled by a single software suite that will allow user selection of module output parameters. Early development work is focusing on Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) and electron beam modules.
