Nozer D. Singpurwalla is a program
manager in the Defense Sciences Office, where
his research interests include probability, statistics,
and decision theory, with a special focus on
issues of reliability and risk analysis. Dr.
Singpurwalla comes to DARPA from The George Washington
University, where he is a Professor in the Departments
of Statistics and of Decision Sciences. He
is also the Director of the Institute for Reliability
and Risk Analysis, and a Distinguished Research
Professor at the university.
Dr. Singpurwalla is a Fellow of The American
Association for the Advancement of Sciences,
The Institute for Mathematical Statistics,
The American Statistical Association, and St.
Hugh’s College in Oxford, England. He
has served on the editorial boards of several
journals and has held visiting professorships
at the University of Oxford, Stanford University,
Carnegie-Mellon University, Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University (as an Endowed
Professor), The Santa Fe Institute, the University
of Brentagne-Sud in France, and the Rockefeller
Foundation’s Bellagio Center in Italy. He
has also served as Chair of several Division
and Directorate Review Committees of Los Alamos
National Laboratory and on the Pharmaceutical
Science and the Manufacturing Science Committees
of the FDA. Dr. Singpurwalla holds a
Doctorate from New York University and a Master’s
degree from Rutgers University. He is
a member of Tau Beta Pi, Alpha Pi Mu and Sigma
Nu, and is listed in Who’s Who in America.
Dr. Singpurwalla has authored or co-authored
three books and more than 200 referenced publications
in his research areas and has directed more
than 30 doctoral dissertations.
