LtCol John R. (Jay) Lowell is a program manager in DARPA's Defense Sciences Office, where he works on inertial force sensors and other emerging applications of atomic physics. Prior to joining DARPA, he was a program manager at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, where he was responsible for the atomic and molecular physics research portfolio. LtCol Lowell was a distinguished graduate of the United States Air Force Academy; he received his master's degree from The Ohio State University and his doctorate from the University of Virginia. He has held a variety of positions within the Air Force, including Assistant Professor of Physics and Director of Research, Department of Physics, United States Air Force Academy.
