BioFuels- Alternative Feedstocks

Program Manager: Dr. Douglas Kirkpatrick

The BioFuels - Alternative Feedstocks program will develop affordable alternatives to petroleum-derived JP-8 from agricultural and aquacultural feedstock materials that are non-competitive with food sources. The goal of BioFuels - Alternative Feedstocks is to reduce the military's reliance on non-renewable and imported sources of oil. The mobility and rapid response capability that is central to the U.S. National Defense Strategy is highly reliant on JP-8 and related fuels. The BioFuels program is currently funding efforts for the development of an affordable JP-8 alternative derived from agricultural crop oils. BioFuels - Alternative Feedstocks is focused on dramatically broadening the portfolio of feedstock materials suitable for the affordable and efficient production of alternatives to petroleum-derived JP-8.
