  • Basic Research on Ionospheric Characteristics and Effects (BRIOCHE)

DARPA's Basic Research on Ionospheric Characteristics and Effects (BRIOCHE) program is exploring ionospheric phenomena and its impact on communications and space weather.

Long-range submarine and subsurface communications and guidance are at times hindered by lack of efficient, high-bandwidth sources in the very low and extremely low frequency ranges.  DARPA's Basic Research on Ionospheric Characteristics and Effects (BRIOCHE) program is exploring ionospheric phenomena and its impact on communications and space weather.  This research focuses on the underlying physics of ionospheric storms, current drive, scintillations, and other ionospheric effects over a broad range of optical and radio frequencies.
