Dr. Jamil R. Abo-Shaeer joined DARPA as a Program Manager in the Defense Sciences Office in 2010.  His interests focus on using quantum phenomena to develop tools and measurement techniques that will be broadly applicable across disciplines, helping to address outstanding challenges in physics, materials and biological sciences.

Prior to joining DSO, Dr. Abo-Shaeer was a scientific consultant providing support to several DARPA offices.  As a postdoctoral fellow in the Nuclear Science Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, his research borrowed techniques from atomic physics to test the Standard Model of Physics.  He received his doctorate in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied the superfluid properties of ultracold quantum gases. He holds an undergraduate degree in physics from the University of California, Berkeley.
